Debbie Stevens called 911 for help when floodwaters in the riverfront town swept up her car while she was delivering newspapers. .

Instead of receiving help, she was mocked by the 911 operator, who told her “You’re not going to die. I don’t know why you’re freaking out” as water slowly filled her car. Stevens later drowned.

Police recently released the 911 call revealing Stevens final moments. Debra Stevens repeatedly asked for help during the call, but was criticized by the dispatcher for “freaking out.” Rescue boats didn’t reach Stevens’ car for another hour after the 911 call ended. First responders then tried, unsuccessfully, to revive her.
