The incident unfolded near Pier 55, where Gregory Timm, 32, confronted an 68 Year-Old disabled Navy Vet in a wheelchair over false military claims and requested to see his ID.
According to prosecutors, Timm grabbed a veteran patch from the man’s items while he was in the process of opening his wallet.
Court documents state that as a result of this, the victim armed himself with a knife. The defendant persisted in asking the victim to display his ID, leading the victim to reveal a holstered airsoft gun.
Subsequently, Timm drew his handgun, aimed at the victim, and shot him in the chest at close range before he could utilize the knife or airsoft gun.
Prosecutors condemned the shooting as a completely avoidable act of violence by the defendant toward a vulnerable victim in a wheelchair.
Timm was arrested at the scene and is being held on $750,000 bail, with prosecutors stating he is likely to commit another violent offense if released
