Some Minnesota Vikings fans are threating to cancel their season tickets after seeing a male Cheerleaders dance routine during preseason game.
Earlier this month, Shiek and Conn joined the Vikings’ cheer team, increasing the roster to 35 members. Following their announcement, some individuals criticized the inclusion of male cheerleaders, threatening to boycott the Vikings this season.
One individual stated, I no longer support the Vikings, with another person commenting, My respect for the Vikings is completely gone.
The Vikings supported Shiek and Conn by releasing a statement in their favor, as reported by NBC News.
By the year 2025, around one-third of NFL teams feature male cheerleaders. All participants in the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders program boast a strong dance history and successfully completed the challenging audition process. Selections were made based on their skill, love for dance, and commitment to enhancing the game-day atmosphere. We fully back our cheerleaders and take pride in their role as representatives of the organization.
In 2018, the Los Angeles Rams became the inaugural NFL team to introduce male dancers onto the field. As per Fox News, Conn had previously been associated with the Iowa State Cyclones dance group.
Male cheerleaders will be part of the Rams, Vikings, Patriots, Saints, Panthers, Buccaneers, Chiefs, Colts, Titans, 49ers, Eagles, and Ravens squads this season.
