Atlanta, GA — A man accused of repeatedly attacking strangers in random, unprovoked incidents has been released on bond once again, raising concerns among local residents and law enforcement officials.
Police in DeKalb County say Jamil Davis has a history of walking up to unsuspecting people and striking them without warning, a pattern that has continued over the past several years.
Despite multiple arrests for battery and similar offenses, Davis was recently released on a $3,000 cash bond.
The most recent incident occurred on January 26 near the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta, where surveillance footage reportedly shows Davis approaching a victim and punching them in the face before fleeing the scene.
Authorities were able to apprehend him later after a MARTA police officer recognized him from a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert.
Davis was charged with misdemeanor battery, even though he was already on probation for previous offenses. According to police, his criminal record includes four arrests over the past four years, three of which involved unprovoked attacks on strangers.
The repeated releases have drawn criticism from both community members and criminal justice observers. Some argue that such decisions put public safety at risk and question the effectiveness of the current bail system in handling repeat offenders.
A local defense attorney noted that while the legal system must respect due process, judges have discretion to consider community safety in bond decisions.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate additional incidents potentially linked to Davis, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
