A Wisconsin couple is facing serious criminal charges after investigators alleged a 1-year-old child was given Fireball Whiskey before dying inside the family’s home, according to court records and law enforcement officials.
The case, which emerged from Milwaukee County, has drawn attention because of allegations that the child’s mother used Fireball whiskey to make the toddler “pass out” while the child’s father allegedly remained occupied playing video games nearby.
Authorities identified the parents as Christina Davis and Kevin McCall. Prosecutors say the couple’s actions — and alleged failure to seek immediate medical help — contributed to the tragic death of the infant.
Investigation Began After Emergency Call
Police and emergency responders were dispatched to the residence after reports of an unresponsive child. Despite efforts to save the toddler, the child was pronounced dead.
Investigators later began examining the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, leading to interviews with witnesses and family members who lived in the home.
According to court filings, one of the most significant statements came from a 6-year-old child who allegedly told investigators that the mother had previously used alcohol to make the baby fall asleep. Authorities claim the child specifically referenced Fireball whiskey being given to the infant.
Detectives reportedly viewed the statement as a critical piece of evidence in establishing a possible pattern of behavior inside the home.
Charging documents cited by investigators describe what authorities believe were dangerous and neglectful conditions involving the care of the child.
Police allege the mother admitted at various points during questioning that alcohol had been present and acknowledged concerns about the baby’s condition before the child became unresponsive.
Investigators also accused the father of failing to intervene or provide proper care while he was allegedly focused on playing video games during key moments leading up to the emergency.
Authorities have not publicly stated exactly how much alcohol the child may have consumed, and official toxicology findings have not yet been fully released.
Medical examiners are expected to determine the final cause and manner of death after additional testing and forensic review.
Milwaukee County prosecutors filed charges against both parents following the investigation.
While the exact charges may evolve as the case proceeds through court, authorities indicated the allegations involve child neglect and reckless conduct connected to the death of the infant.
Court records reportedly accuse the adults of failing to provide a safe environment and failing to respond appropriately once the child showed signs of distress.
The case is expected to move through preliminary hearings in the coming weeks.
The allegations have generated outrage online and renewed discussion about child neglect cases involving substance abuse inside the home.
Many reactions focused on the disturbing nature of the accusations involving alcohol allegedly being used to sedate a baby.
Child welfare advocates frequently warn that even small amounts of alcohol can be extremely dangerous — and potentially fatal — for infants and toddlers due to their size and developing organs.
Experts say symptoms of alcohol poisoning in children can include vomiting, slowed breathing, seizures, unconsciousness, and cardiac complications.
As the criminal proceedings continue, both defendants remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Authorities have not announced a trial date, and additional evidence could emerge as prosecutors continue reviewing medical findings and witness testimony.
The investigation remains ongoing.
