A Michigan family says they were shocked after allegedly discovering their landlord inside their rental home engaging in sexual activity while they were away visiting a hospitalized relative.
The incident reportedly took place in Westland, Michigan, where tenant Javon Crawford says he and his wife temporarily left their home after the landlord arrived to perform maintenance work involving repairs to the roof and attic.
According to Crawford, the landlord had been given access to the property while they were away at the hospital.
While the family was gone, they began receiving alerts from their indoor security camera system.
When they checked the live feed, they say they were stunned by what they saw.
The footage allegedly showed the landlord walking through the home unclothed before engaging in sexual activity with another person inside the rental property.
The incident reportedly occurred in front of a security camera placed inside the home.
Crawford said he was at the hospital with his wife visiting a sick relative when they discovered the activity in real time.
He described the experience as shocking and upsetting, saying the situation left the couple feeling disrespected and violated.
After viewing the footage, Crawford says he confronted the landlord by phone. According to his account, the landlord dismissed the concerns during the conversation.
The tenants later provided the security camera footage to police and are seeking to ensure the landlord no longer needs access to the property for repairs or maintenance.
Authorities have not publicly announced any criminal charges in connection with the incident.
Legal experts who have commented on similar situations suggest cases like this may fall into a gray area, potentially involving trespassing or civil disputes related to lease agreements and landlord access rights.
Under general landlord-tenant rules in Michigan, property owners are typically permitted to enter rental homes only for specific purposes such as repairs, inspections, or emergencies, and are expected to respect tenants’ privacy while doing so.
The landlord has not publicly responded to the allegations.
