A newly released surveillance is shedding new light on a violent confrontation involving controversial fitness influencer Wes Watson, revealing the brutal moments a man was repeatedly struck inside a Miami gym during an attack that has now resulted in a guilty plea.
The footage, released this week, captures the December 29, 2024, incident at Elevation Fitness in Miami-Dade County.
Investigators say the altercation began after a New Jersey man approached Watson inside the gym, but the confrontation quickly escalated into a violent assault.
Video shows Watson, surrounded by several other men, swinging a weightlifting belt multiple times at the victim after an initial confrontation. Authorities say the victim was also assaulted by additional individuals during the attack, leaving him with serious facial injuries, including a fractured face.
Watson, 42, pleaded guilty last week to one count of aggravated battery as part of a negotiated plea agreement.
Under the deal, prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 21 months in prison, with credit for time already served, followed by seven years of probation and mandatory mental health treatment. His sentencing hearing is currently scheduled for July 17.
According to investigators, the victim admitted he traveled from New Jersey to confront Watson after following him online. Watson later told responding officers the man challenged him to a fight while he was working out.
During court proceedings, Watson’s defense attorney argued that the victim intentionally sought out the influencer because of his online notoriety, suggesting the encounter was not random.
Prosecutors, however, relied heavily on surveillance footage documenting the violence inside the gym.
Watson rose to prominence after serving time in prison and building a massive social media following centered on fitness, discipline, entrepreneurship, and motivational content. He has since attracted millions of followers across multiple platforms.
The Miami-Dade case is not Watson’s only legal issue. He is also facing separate felony charges in neighboring Broward County involving allegations of battery, aggravated assault, witness tampering, and a domestic violence-related case. Those charges remain pending, and Watson has not been convicted in those matters.
The newly released surveillance video has reignited discussion across social media, with many viewers questioning the level of force used during the confrontation. The footage has circulated widely online as Watson awaits sentencing later this month.
Authorities have not announced any additional charges related to others who appeared in the video.
