A Florida couple is facing serious criminal allegations after investigators say they were running a network of unlicensed assisted living facilities where vulnerable residents were allegedly abused and neglected.
Authorities say Ronald Keith Pack, 60, and Marie Carenan, 56, operated multiple facilities in Polk and Osceola counties under names including Cherish Home Care and Cherish Independent Living.
Investigators allege some residents were subjected to physical abuse, including claims that tasers and pepper spray were used against patients in their care.
During a bond hearing, prosecutors revealed disturbing allegations from former employees and investigators, including claims that residents were restricted from contacting police, had their freedom limited, and lived in unsafe conditions.
Officials also said dozens of residents had to be removed from the facilities and relocated.
The couple has been charged with multiple felony offenses, including allegations involving elder abuse, exploitation, neglect, and fraud. They have denied bond while the case moves forward.
⚠️ This is an ongoing investigation. The allegations have not been proven in court.
