Authorities in Baton Rouge are searching for a 31-year-old woman accused of helping her teenage boyfriend evade law enforcement after investigators say he shot her in the face during a domestic dispute.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the woman allegedly drove the teenage suspect across state lines and concealed his whereabouts instead of cooperating with investigators following the shooting.
Police say the incident took an unexpected turn when the victim allegedly chose to assist the suspect’s escape rather than aid the investigation.
Investigators allege the shooting stemmed from an argument between the woman and her teenage boyfriend. Despite suffering a gunshot wound to the face, authorities say she later helped the juvenile flee Louisiana, allowing him to temporarily avoid arrest.
The teen was eventually located and taken into custody in Texas after a multi-state investigation.
Police have since obtained an arrest warrant for the woman, accusing her of acting as an accessory after the fact by knowingly helping the suspect escape.
She also faces charges related to contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, according to investigators.
The case has generated widespread attention online because of its unusual circumstances, with many questioning why someone who was allegedly the victim of a violent crime would later help the accused evade police. Authorities have not publicly discussed the woman’s motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
