A 21-year-old college student with big dreams of becoming a television producer has tragically lost her life after police say a driver slammed into her car while traveling nearly 95 miles per hour in Atlanta.
Morgan Gamble, a senior at Clark Atlanta University, was killed Tuesday night, October 13, in a devastating crash that has left her family, friends and fellow students heartbroken.
The young woman had been building a future in the entertainment industry and even worked on Netflix’s reboot of the popular television series A Different World.
Now, instead of celebrating her accomplishments and watching her dreams unfold, her loved ones are demanding answers about how her life could be taken so suddenly.
According to Atlanta police, the fatal collision happened around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hank Aaron Drive and Glen Street in southeast Atlanta.
Investigators say Gamble was driving westbound when a Lexus allegedly driven by Nikolai Dunford crashed into her vehicle at a dangerously high rate of speed.
According to a police warrant cited by WSB-TV Atlanta, data retrieved from the vehicle’s event data recorder showed the Lexus was traveling approximately 94.4 miles per hour in a zone listed as 35 mph.
That is nearly three times the posted speed limit described in the warrant.
Gamble was rushed to a nearby hospital after the collision, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities arrested Dunford at the scene. He now faces charges that include speeding, reckless driving and first-degree vehicular homicide, according to local reporting.
The allegations have raised serious questions about what happened in the moments leading up to the crash and whether it could have been prevented.
Dunford has been charged in connection with Gamble’s death. The charges remain allegations, and any determination of guilt will be made through the legal process.
Beyond the tragic circumstances surrounding her death, Gamble was remembered as an ambitious young woman who was determined to make her mark in the entertainment industry.
She was studying Mass Media Arts at Clark Atlanta University, where she pursued her passion for television, film and production.
Her family told WSB-TV that Gamble had developed an interest in producing at a young age and was already creating projects of her own, including short films, biographies and documentaries.
Her father, George Gamble, encouraged her to study the work of acclaimed producer Shonda Rhimes, helping inspire the young woman’s ambitions.
According to her family, Morgan was the type of person who naturally took charge of creative projects, even organizing productions and activities during family gatherings.
Her mother, Brandi Gamble, described her daughter as someone who knew what she wanted to do from the beginning.
Unfortunately, her promising career was cut short before she could fully realize everything she had been working toward.
One of the most heartbreaking details about Gamble’s story is that she had already begun gaining experience in the entertainment business while still attending college.
Her father told WSB-TV that she worked as a student production assistant on Netflix’s reboot of A Different World. She also reportedly made a brief on-screen appearance in the show’s first episode.
The opportunity gave Gamble a chance to work around a professional production while pursuing the career she envisioned for herself.
Felicia Pride, the show’s showrunner, also paid tribute to the young woman following news of her death.
In a message shared on Instagram, Pride remembered Gamble as a standout student at Clark Atlanta University and a background performer who was appreciated by the production.
Her tribute reflected the sadness felt by those who had the opportunity to work with the aspiring producer.
For Gamble’s family and supporters, her connection to the show represents more than a television credit. It is another reminder that she was already taking steps toward a future she was passionate about.
Gamble’s parents are now left trying to understand how their daughter’s life ended in a crash involving such an alarming reported speed.
Her father expressed disbelief over the circumstances, questioning how a driver could allegedly be traveling nearly 95 mph in an area with a much lower speed limit.
Her mother also voiced the family’s pain and frustration as they attempt to process the loss.
The crash has also sparked concern among people who live near the intersection. Residents told local news outlets that dangerous driving in the area has been an ongoing concern, with some calling for additional traffic controls to help prevent future tragedies.
Meanwhile, Clark Atlanta University acknowledged Gamble’s passing in a statement and extended condolences to her family, friends, classmates and everyone who knew her.
