Florida Mother Arrested After 4 Kids Were Found Home Alone During Las Vegas Trip

A Florida mother is facing multiple child neglect charges after authorities say she left her four children home alone while traveling to Las Vegas for work. The case reportedly came to light after one of the children called 911 when her 9-year-old brother was injured by a falling dumbbell.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home in Kissimmee, Florida, on the evening of October 21, 2026, after receiving a call for help from one of the children.

When deputies arrived, they allegedly discovered four children, ages 9, 11, 12 and 14, inside the home without an adult present.

Investigators said the youngest child had been struck on the head by a dumbbell. Emergency responders transported the boy to Celebration Hospital for treatment. He was later released.

Authorities identified the children’s mother as 50-year-old Irene Miller of Kissimmee.

According to investigators, a deputy contacted Miller by phone after arriving at the residence. She reportedly explained that she was in Las Vegas for work and expected to return to Florida on October 23.

Investigators later determined that Miller had left Florida on October 18, meaning the children were allegedly without overnight adult supervision for several days.

Miller reportedly told deputies that she had arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to visit the home in the mornings to help the children prepare for school and return in the afternoons to check on them.

However, authorities said the babysitter was not required to stay overnight with the children.

The incident raised serious concerns about the children’s supervision, particularly after the 911 call brought emergency responders to the home.

Following the incident, authorities contacted the children’s father, who reportedly agreed to take all four children to his residence.

The injured 9-year-old was treated at the hospital and subsequently discharged, according to officials.

Investigators then made arrangements to meet Miller when she returned to Central Florida from Las Vegas.

On October 23, detectives with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reportedly met Miller as she stepped off her flight at Orlando International Airport.

Body-camera footage released by authorities shows deputies approaching Miller after she exited the plane before escorting her through the airport and taking her into custody.

She faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, according to the sheriff’s office. The charges relate to the allegations involving each of the four children.

Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon addressed the case in a statement, emphasizing that the agency takes allegations of child neglect seriously and intends to investigate cases involving children who authorities believe were not properly supervised or cared for.

The case has drawn attention because the children were allegedly left without an adult staying in the home while their mother traveled out of state.

Authorities have not alleged that the mother intentionally caused the injury to her son. The reported investigation centers on the children’s supervision and the circumstances surrounding the trip.

The arrest is an allegation, and the charges against Miller have not been established as proof of guilt. Any final determination of criminal responsibility will be made through the legal process.

The case remains a reminder of the serious concerns that can arise when children are left without appropriate adult supervision, particularly when an emergency occurs and no responsible adult is immediately available.
