Jaleel Smith-Riley tried to withdraw his guilty plea but the judge denied his request and sentenced him to life in prison without parole for killing a woman and injuring her boyfriend.
Smith-Riley collapsed as he heard his sentence. During a hearing on Oct. 19, the judge denied Smith-Riley’s motion to change his guilty plea. Judge Charles Kubicki then began the sentencing hearing.
