The police officer who shot and killed Keith Lamont Scott will not face charges. Scott was shot on September 20th, by Charlotte police officer Brentley Vinson. The state district attorney said evidence in the case showed Scott stepped out of his SUV with a gun in his hand. He also said Scott ignored at least 10 commands from the five officers on the scene to drop it. After Scott’s death, Charlotte experienced almost a week of street demonstrations, along with two nights of rioting. Governor Pat McCrory would eventually declare a state of emergency.
