A man who was taken into custody after two men were shot outside of Nash County Courthouse Tuesday was released Wednesday, as the victims’ conditions remained critical.
Ontarious Montre Lewis, 23, of Rocky Mount, was freed after questioning, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
“The Nash County Sheriff’s office released (Lewis) after interviewing him late Tuesday evening,” according to a police statement. “Investigators are currently working on several leads into the shooting….

Police had taken Lewis into custody, suspecting he had been involved in the attack on Donte’a Evans, 34, and Lamar Ricks, 31.
Both were in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where they were airlifted Tuesday after receiving treatment at Nash General Hospital.
