Three inmates, including one charged with murder, escaped from the DeKalb County Jail east of Atlanta early Monday, authorities said. The escape was discovered during a routine security check, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Melody Maddox said officials are taking the escape seriously and are actively working to locate and return the men to custody. Details about how the inmates escaped were not immediately available.
Authorities said the inmates, who range in age from 24 to 31, face charges that include murder, armed robbery, and arson. Officials warned that the men may be armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach them.
