Fort Wayne, Indiana — A 75-year-old Indiana woman has died after a physical altercation with employees at a Tim Hortons in Fort Wayne, following an argument over a drive-thru order, according to police.
Authorities identified the woman as Anita Grayson, who was involved in the incident on May 13, 2026, at a Tim Hortons location on Ice Way.
According to NewYorkPost the Fort Wayne Police Department, Grayson entered the restaurant to address an issue with a previous drive-thru order. Investigators say she became upset during the interaction and began arguing with a teenage employee working at the counter.
A 20-year-old shift manager then intervened and instructed Grayson to leave the store, according to police statements and surveillance footage reviewed during the investigation.
Police say the situation escalated when Grayson allegedly moved toward the younger employee and came into contact with the shift manager. The confrontation turned physical, with both women exchanging strikes before falling to the ground.
Surveillance footage released by authorities shows employees attempting to separate the two during the struggle. After the altercation ended, Grayson reportedly sat down inside the restaurant.
Investigators say Grayson remained inside the restaurant for several minutes before suddenly lying down on the floor. Employees called emergency services, and responding officers found her unresponsive.
Paramedics performed life-saving measures at the scene before transporting her to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Cause of death pending
The official cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. However, preliminary findings from the Allen County Coroner’s Office reportedly found no significant traumatic injuries contributing to her death.
Authorities have stated that Grayson’s medical history, including reported heart conditions, is being considered as part of the ongoing investigation.
Grayson’s family has disputed aspects of the police account, saying she had pre-existing health conditions and should not have died following the incident. Community members and local officials have also raised concerns about how the situation was handled.
Police emphasized that the investigation included witness interviews and surveillance review, and that the full case file has been submitted to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
