NJ Middle School Teacher Accused of Sending Student 7,500 Texts

A former middle school teacher in Gloucester County has been charged with multiple offenses, including the alleged sexual assault of a student, authorities announced.

Ashley Fisler, 36, is accused of engaging in an inappropriate and illegal relationship with a minor while she was employed at a local middle school. Prosecutors say the alleged incidents took place in 2021, when the student was underage.

According to investigators, the alleged victim—now an adult—reported the incidents to authorities in January 2026, prompting a formal investigation.

Prosecutors allege that the relationship began as a pattern of grooming when the student was as young as 12 years old and escalated into multiple sexual encounters.

Some of the alleged incidents reportedly occurred inside a classroom and in the teacher’s personal vehicle.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officials reviewed thousands of pages of text messages exchanged between Fisler and the student. Authorities say the messages included explicit content and are central to the case.

Fisler faces several serious charges, including:

  • First-degree sexual assault of a minor
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Official misconduct

If convicted on the most serious charges, she could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years under New Jersey law.

During a recent court hearing, a judge ordered that Fisler be held in custody pending trial. Prosecutors argued that the severity of the allegations, along with concerns about community saf

Fisler has denied the allegations against her and is expected to challenge the evidence presented by prosecutors as the case moves forward.

School officials confirmed that Fisler is no longer employed by the district. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges or victims may be involved, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Fisler is scheduled to appear in court again in the coming weeks as the legal process continues.

Officials emphasize that all charges at this stage are allegations. Under the law, Fisler is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
