Former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months of probation following a plea deal stemming from a stalking-related incident involving a former romantic partner.
Moore appeared in Washtenaw County court with his wife, Kelli Moore, and received the sentence from Judge Cedric Simpson.
The judge said incarceration was not appropriate in the case but warned Moore that any probation violations could result in jail time.
Moore is also required to continue mental health treatment and avoid any contact with the victim.
Prosecutors said Moore was originally charged with more serious offenses, including home invasion and stalking, but ultimately reached a plea agreement to lesser charges involving misuse of a telecommunications device and trespassing.
Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski said the victim was significantly affected by Moore’s actions, while defense attorney Ellen Michaels said Moore had taken responsibility, sought counseling, and focused on his family since the incident.
Moore had faced allegations that he made repeated calls and texts before a confrontation at the woman’s home on Dec. 10, during which he allegedly made threats toward himself. He was later dismissed from his coaching position following the incident.
The court set a future review date in 2027 to assess his progress on probation.
