A 14-year-old boy has been arrested following a violent assault in East Harlem that was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, according to law enforcement officials and multiple reports.
The incident occurred near East 107th Street and 3rd Avenue in Manhattan, where authorities say the teen confronted a 15-year-old girl following an interaction that allegedly began as a request for her phone number.
According to reports, the situation escalated when the girl attempted to walk away. Surveillance and bystander footage that later went viral appears to show the boy grabbing the girl, forcefully throwing her to the ground, and stomping on her head before leaving the scene.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for head injuries, including a concussion. Officials have stated that she is expected to recover.
The video of the incident quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread public attention and condemnation. In response, law enforcement identified the suspect and arrested him shortly after the footage circulated online.
The teen has been charged with assault and is being processed through the juvenile justice system in family court, as he is under the age of 16. Authorities have not released his identity due to legal protections for minors.
Police have not confirmed whether prior interactions between the two individuals occurred before the assault, though some reports suggest there may have been earlier verbal contact.
