Driver Who Crashed Into Home, Injuring 9-Year-Old Girl Sentenced.

A young driver is set to be sentenced after crashing into a suburban home and seriously injuring a 9-year-old girl in an incident that shocked a Michigan community and left a family grappling with long-term recovery.

The crash occurred in October 2025 in Center Line, Michigan, when a sport utility vehicle veered off the road and slammed into a residential house during the early morning hours. Inside the home, 9-year-old Laila Breitshtrus was asleep in her bedroom when the vehicle tore through the structure.

The force of the impact was catastrophic. Authorities say the collision launched the child through her bedroom window and into the yard outside. She suffered multiple serious injuries, including spinal trauma, a fractured nose, and internal organ damage.

Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, where she underwent extensive treatment.

In the months since the crash, Laila—who has since turned 10—has faced a long and difficult recovery.

Family members have described ongoing physical challenges and the emotional toll of the incident, as the child continues to heal from injuries that have altered her daily life.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Caris Adell Wade, fled the scene immediately after the crash, according to investigators. She was later apprehended and charged in connection with the incident.

Prosecutors said Wade ultimately entered a no-contest plea to charges that include reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the crash and the vulnerability of the young victim.

Community members have rallied around the Breitshtrus family, offering support as they navigate medical treatments and recovery efforts.

Wade was sentenced today to 290 days in jail and three years’ probation. She was also ordered not to contact the victim or the victim’s family.
