Miami Man Arrested After Allegedly Hitting Softball Player With Metal Bat.

AVENTURA, Fla. — A recreational softball game in South Florida turned violent over the weekend after a dispute between players escalated into a physical altercation that left one man hospitalized and another facing felony charges.

According to the Aventura Police Department, officers responded to Waterways Park on Sunday morning after receiving reports of a fight involving multiple participants during an adult softball league game. Investigators say tensions between the opposing teams boiled over after a verbal argument erupted on the field.

Authorities allege that during the confrontation, 41-year-old Roberto Araujo of Miami grabbed a metal bat and struck another player in the back of the head. Witnesses told police the incident unfolded as several players were pushing and shoving each other during the escalating dispute.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the injured player to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital as a trauma alert patient. Officials have not publicly released details regarding the victim’s current condition.

Police investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the park and say the video corroborated witness statements. According to the arrest report, the footage allegedly showed Araujo swinging the bat and striking the victim, causing the victim’s baseball cap to fly off upon impact.

Following the incident, officers issued a lookout alert for a suspect vehicle reportedly seen leaving the area. Aventura police later stopped a vehicle matching the description and detained Araujo without incident.

Araujo was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Jail records show he was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced whether additional charges or arrests are expected.

The incident has drawn attention across South Florida, raising concerns about violence at recreational sporting events that are intended to provide friendly competition and community engagement.
