Ca$h Out, the Atlanta rapper famous for songs like Cashin’ Out and She Twerkin, has been sentenced to life in prison in Fulton County, Georgia.
This decision comes after his conviction on charges such as rape and sex trafficking.
Last week, John Michael Hakeem Gibson, known as Ca$h Out, was found guilty in a racketeering trial after being accused of running a trafficking and prostitution operation.
He received a life sentence followed by 70 years in prison. Additional jail terms for separate charges were served concurrently, without extending his total years behind bars.
He must adhere to extra terms that involve avoiding contact with victims or their families, being listed as a sex offender, and keeping clear of multiple addresses in metro Atlanta, such as the Fulton Industrial Blvd. area.
In court Monday, numerous victims and their families shared their suffering, expressing feelings of being disgusting and unlovable, along with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other issues arising from being trafficked and forced into prostitution. One victim’s parents recounted how the perpetrator, leveraging his fame and wealth, stole their essence… essentially took the spirits of all the women he exploited.
The rapper denied being responsible for trafficking, coercion, or rape, claiming the jury’s verdict was incorrect. He implied that the victims were pressured into testifying against him and likened his situation to that of Jesus, who was also wrongly accused.
The lawyer requested a 30-year sentence, noting that the prosecution had suggested 25 years earlier, a proposal he refused as he wished to have his case heard. The attorney urged the judge against imposing a trial penalty leading to more severe sentencing.
Before stating the sentence, the judge mentioned that the trial evidence revealed the most despicable actions of one person toward another. She noted that the jury’s decision confirmed the prosecution’s successful demonstration of the defendants’ wicked behavior, and the punishment would align with this finding.
Cash Out was found guilty last week following a month-long trial for offenses such as rape, aggravated sodomy, sex trafficking, racketeering, and various other violations.
Linda Smith, his mother, recognized as Morenika Vinnie and Mama Ca$h Out, and Tyrone Taylor were both tried and found guilty.
Linda Smith was given 30 years in prison, and Taylor was also given life plus 70 years.
In a case re-indicted in 2023, prosecutors accused Ca$h Out of leading an enterprise engaged in racketeering activities resulting in trafficking and violent crimes.
“Although now administratively dissolved, Cash Out used PMG (Pyrex Music Group, LLC), along with this brand name ‘Cash Out,’ to promote his music and the ‘Cash Out’ brand, and through the use of deception and then coercion, enticed and recruited women from social media platforms to engage in commercial sexual activity,” the re-indictment states.
