A high school basketball coach in Cincinnati has been arrested after authorities accused him of engaging in a sexual relationship with a student athlete, according to court records.
Police say Keylan Behanan, 26, a coach at Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy, faces multiple criminal charges related to alleged conduct involving a 16-year-old student on the school’s basketball team.
According to court documents, Behanan has been charged with two counts of sexual battery and one count of grooming. Investigators allege that the incidents occurred on several dates in February while Behanan was working as a coach for the team.
Authorities say the alleged relationship involved inappropriate communication prior to the encounters. Investigators claim the coach exchanged messages with the student that included sexual content and discussions before the alleged incidents took place.
Police launched an investigation after the allegations were reported to authorities. During questioning, investigators say Behanan admitted to engaging in sexual conduct with the minor, according to the court filings.
Behanan was taken into custody and appeared in court shortly after his arrest. A judge set bond and ordered that he have no contact with the alleged victim as the case moves forward.
Officials with Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy have not released extensive details about the situation but confirmed they are cooperating with law enforcement during the investigation.
The case remains under investigation, and Behanan is scheduled to appear in court for further proceedings in the coming weeks. As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information related to the case to contact local law enforcement.
