A Florida mother landed behind bars after allegedly launching a violent rage against her teenage son, striking him with a broomstick and dousing him with household chemicals when he failed to finish his chores, authorities said.
Maria Carla Rodriguez, 37, was arrested Monday night following the explosive incident at the family’s Miami-area home, according to local10.com.
Police say Rodriguez stormed into her son’s room around 9:20 p.m., dragging him out of bed after discovering his chores were left undone. She ordered him into the kitchen to wash dishes, but when a fork slipped from his hands and hit the floor, Rodriguez allegedly hurled the utensil at his head. The boy narrowly avoided being struck.
Enraged, Rodriguez then allegedly grabbed a broom and beat the teen across his arms and chest, leaving visible bruises, according to investigators.
The alleged assault didn’t end there. Authorities say she later sent the boy to the bathroom to clean the toilet — then sprayed a cleaning chemical directly into his face, causing his eyes to become red and swollen.
Rodriguez was arrested shortly after the incident, though police have not said who made the emergency call.
Once in custody, she denied attacking her son, telling officers the confrontation was merely a dispute over household chores and his time spent with friends.
