Newly released police body-camera footage from a 2023 Las Vegas child abuse case has revealed the horrifying conditions inside a small apartment where children were allegedly tortured, starved, and imprisoned — a case that ultimately sent a father to prison for 72 years.
According to Law And Crime The disturbing discovery began when a woman fled to a Walgreens in fear for her life, telling employees that her husband had threatened to kill her.
Officers were dispatched to the store and quickly traced her back to a one-bedroom apartment in Las Vegas, prompting an urgent welfare check.
When police entered the apartment, they encountered a scene that stunned even seasoned officers.
Inside, two children were found padlocked inside a metal dog cage. The children were severely bruised, emaciated, and visibly malnourished, with investigators later describing them as starving and physically broken down from prolonged abuse.
Bodycam footage shows officers using bolt cutters to break the lock and free the children from the cage. One child was reportedly unable to stand on his own, hunched over from weakness and trauma. Bruises, welts, and other injuries covered their bodies, painting a grim picture of the suffering they endured behind closed doors.
Investigators determined the children were beaten daily and deprived of food by their father, Travis Doss, who lived in the apartment with six of his children.
Prosecutors later detailed a pattern of escalating violence, alleging Doss used belts, extension cords, and household objects to punish the children, often leaving them locked inside the cage for extended periods.
Authorities said the children were denied basic necessities, including adequate food and medical care, while being subjected to repeated physical abuse. The apartment itself was described as filthy and unfit for habitation.
The children’s stepmother, Amanda Stamper, was also arrested after investigators concluded she failed to intervene or protect the children despite being aware of the abuse. Both adults were charged with multiple counts of child abuse and neglect.
Stamper later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison. Doss eventually pleaded guilty to numerous felony counts related to the prolonged abuse and imprisonment of his children. In court, prosecutors emphasized the severity and duration of the abuse, arguing it was among the most disturbing child abuse cases they had encountered.
A judge ultimately sentenced Doss to 72 years behind bars, a punishment reflecting the extreme cruelty and long-term harm inflicted on the children.
The release of the bodycam footage has reignited public outrage and renewed conversations about child welfare, domestic violence, and the warning signs that often go unnoticed.
Law enforcement officials have urged the public to report suspected abuse, stressing that early intervention can mean the difference between life and death for vulnerable children.
