Phoenix Suns star Dillon Brooks is facing a misdemeanor DUI charge months after Scottsdale police pulled him over in his Rolls-Royce and accused him of driving while impaired.
According to court records, prosecutors filed a criminal complaint in Scottsdale City Court charging Brooks with misdemeanor DUI stemming from his March 6 arrest. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 28.
The new charge comes months after the NBA forward was originally arrested on suspicion of DUI during an early-morning traffic stop in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Police Say Brooks Was Weaving Through Traffic
The incident happened around 1 a.m. near Thunderbird Road and Scottsdale Road.
According to a Scottsdale police report, an officer spotted Brooks driving his Rolls-Royce and allegedly saw the vehicle repeatedly weaving in and out of lanes.
The officer reportedly continued following Brooks and observed the Rolls-Royce weave between lanes at least five times before pulling him over in a nearby parking lot.
Things reportedly got even more serious once officers approached the vehicle.
Police said they detected the smell of fresh and burnt cannabis coming from inside the Rolls-Royce. Body-camera footage from the stop was later released, showing Brooks speaking with officers during the investigation.
At one point, an officer reportedly told Brooks that his vehicle smelled heavily of marijuana, even saying it smelled “like a dispensary.”
Brooks denied smoking marijuana and told officers that it had been a while since he had used it. According to the police report, he also told officers that he had not consumed marijuana in roughly six months.
Brooks Took A Breath Test
Police conducted several field sobriety tests during the traffic stop.
According to the report, officers documented several signs they believed could indicate impairment, including observations about Brooks’ movements, speech and eyes.
Brooks was also given a breathalyzer test, but the result came back at 0.00% alcohol.
That detail is important because authorities previously said the March arrest was not related to alcohol. Brooks was nevertheless arrested on suspicion of DUI and released while authorities awaited additional testing.
The case is now officially moving forward after prosecutors filed the misdemeanor complaint months after the arrest.
This Wasn’t His Only Traffic-Related Run-In
The DUI case isn’t the only time Brooks has recently found himself dealing with Scottsdale police.
In January, TMZ reported that Brooks was cited after an officer allegedly spotted him driving 85 mph in a 45-mph zone. That incident involved allegations of reckless driving and excessive speed and happened before the March DUI arrest.
The two incidents are separate cases.
The March incident, however, is now the one putting Brooks in court on a formal DUI charge.
The timing of the charge is notable because Brooks recently agreed to remain with the Phoenix Suns on a massive new contract.
Arizona’s Family reported that Brooks and the Suns agreed to a three-year, $73 million extension that runs through the 2029-30 season.
Brooks, who has earned the nickname “Dillon the Villain” during his NBA career, joined Phoenix as part of a seven-team trade in 2025.
He reportedly had one of the best offensive seasons of his career last year, averaging 20.2 points per game during the regular season. He also led the Suns in scoring during their first-round playoff series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 26 points per game.
Now, while Brooks prepares for another NBA season, he will also have to deal with the legal case stemming from his March arrest.
For now, the DUI charge remains an allegation, and the case has not been resolved. Brooks is scheduled to appear in Scottsdale City Court on October 28.
