Ex-Police Officer Sentenced for Slamming Handcuffed Suspect

The ex-Ormond Beach police officer was convicted of felony battery, and the video depicts the courtroom during the sentencing. For the incident caught on camera, the officer will spend six months in jail.

The footage displayed the officer engaging in police brutality against the victim.

After the incident came to light, police said that Officer Jacob Cannon, 32, was relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave.

Cannon was later charged with battery, but he resigned to the chief of police before surrendering at the county jail.

He received a six-month jail term with credit for 11 days served and was also placed on two years of probation after completing his time in jail. Prosecutors had asked for Cannon to be sentenced to 19 months.

Cannon pleaded no contest on Friday, saying he was sorry and his behavior was “unacceptable.”

On December 6, officers apprehended Shanna McRee following a collision involving a motorcycle. Authorities indicated she displayed signs of impairment and detained her for DUI offenses.

After she was taken to the department’s headquarters, she was taken to the hospital with a head wound.

Police department footage depicts two officers attempting but failing to have McRee use a breathalyzer.

McRee later stands up against the officers’ orders for her to remain seated. Subsequently, Cannon forcibly throws her to the ground, causing her head to hit a glass wall.
