Former Cowboys Star Dez Bryant Cited After Heated Parking Lot Fight.

Former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant is making headlines after a traffic dispute in Southlake, Texas, escalated into a heated parking lot confrontation that ended with the former NFL wide receiver receiving an assault citation.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2026, after Bryant reportedly got into a disagreement with two young men following a traffic incident near Kimball Avenue. The confrontation drew police to a nearby retail parking lot, where officers arrived with their firearms drawn after receiving reports of a fight and a possible weapon.

According to Southlake police, several people were temporarily detained while officers investigated. No firearms were recovered at the scene, and Bryant was issued a citation for assault by contact, a Class C misdemeanor, before being released.

Bryant has said the confrontation began after he was cut off by another motorist. According to his account, the situation escalated when he attempted to address the driving behavior and one of the men allegedly threatened him.

The former Cowboys receiver later explained that he believed the other man was suggesting he might shoot him. Bryant said he was concerned about the alleged threat and believed he was defending himself as the disagreement intensified.

Noah Reyes and Terrance Avery, both 19, told local news outlets that they were driving in the area when the disagreement began. They denied deliberately cutting Bryant off or trying to provoke him.

The young men said the situation escalated after they arrived at the restaurant parking lot, where Bryant allegedly confronted them.

Video shared by the young men and obtained by local news outlets shows Bryant confronting Reyes and Avery during the argument.

At one point, footage shows Bryant knocking a cellphone out of Reyes’ hand. Bryant acknowledged knocking the phone away, saying he wanted the recording to stop after the confrontation became heated.

Additional footage and accounts described Bryant picking up the phone and throwing it to the ground. The young men said Bryant threatened them during the exchange, while Bryant has maintained that he was responding to what he viewed as a threat against him.

Reyes and Avery have rejected Bryant’s claim that one of them threatened to shoot him. Their accounts differ significantly from the former NFL player’s description of what led to the confrontation.

The disagreement has since attracted attention online, with video of the encounter circulating as people debate how the situation escalated and whether it could have been handled differently.

Things took another turn when Southlake police officers arrived at the scene.

Police said multiple callers reported a fight involving several people and a possible weapon. Because of those reports, officers drew their firearms as a precaution before temporarily detaining several individuals.

Bryant was among those placed in handcuffs. He later spoke publicly about the encounter, saying he was particularly concerned that his daughters witnessed him on the ground while an officer had a firearm pointed in his direction.

Bryant questioned the way officers handled the situation and said he wanted authorities to investigate what happened before deciding who was responsible.

Police, meanwhile, said officers recovered no firearms during their investigation.

Authorities confirmed that Bryant received a citation for assault by contact. The citation is a Class C misdemeanor, and the incident did not result in a reported arrest.

The incident has put the spotlight on Bryant, who spent eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after being selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He became one of the team’s most recognizable wide receivers and earned three Pro Bowl selections during his time in Dallas.

Bryant last played for the Cowboys during the 2017 season and later spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens.

For now, the Southlake confrontation remains a developing story, with Bryant and the two young men offering conflicting accounts of how the dispute began. The available videos provide glimpses of the argument, but they do not independently establish every detail of what happened before the recording began.

Bryant’s citation is not a criminal conviction, and the allegations surrounding the encounter should not be treated as proven facts.

As more information becomes available, additional details could shed light on the events that led to the confrontation and the police response.
