A former elementary school teacher is facing serious criminal charges after investigators say he allegedly showed sexually explicit material to students and engaged in inappropriate conduct with multiple children.
The case involves 53-year-old Cesar Oriol Cardoso, a former teacher at Sunset Park Elementary School in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
According to Miami-Dade Schools Police, the investigation began after allegations surfaced involving students at the school. Investigators ultimately identified at least five alleged victims, according to the arrest report.
And some of the allegations against Cardoso are extremely disturbing.
Police say Cardoso allegedly used situations at school to get female students away from their normal activities. Investigators allege that he would pull students from places such as physical education, lunch or other classes, sometimes telling them that they needed to complete schoolwork.
Instead, authorities say the students were allegedly exposed to sexually explicit material.
According to investigators, Cardoso allegedly showed inappropriate images and videos to students, including material depicting naked women.
Police also allege that at least two students told investigators they believed Cardoso showed them nude photographs of himself.
One of the most serious allegations in the arrest report involves an image that investigators say depicted child sexual abuse material.
Authorities are also accusing the former teacher of inappropriate physical contact with students.
According to the allegations, Cardoso allegedly touched or slapped girls on their buttocks or thighs.
In one particularly disturbing allegation described by police, Cardoso allegedly placed his hand over his clothing near his crotch and made an inappropriate comment to a student, according to the arrest report.
The allegations reportedly involved more than one student, which is why investigators continued expanding the case as additional information came forward.
The investigation eventually led authorities to Cardoso, who was interviewed by detectives on September 11, 2026.
However, according to police, Cardoso invoked his right to remain silent during the interview.
He has since appeared in court as the criminal case moves forward.
Cardoso is facing multiple charges, including allegations involving offenses against students by authority figures, showing obscene material to a minor, and lewd and lascivious conduct involving a child under 16, according to authorities.
The accusations have also raised serious questions about how the alleged conduct could have occurred inside an elementary school environment.
Parents send their children to school expecting teachers and staff to protect them, making allegations involving sexually explicit material and inappropriate contact with students particularly serious.
However, it is important to remember that these are allegations, and Cardoso is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in court.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities may provide additional information as the case develops.
The former teacher’s court appearance was captured on video, bringing renewed attention to the case after reports detailing the allegations emerged.
For parents and families connected to the school, the allegations are likely to be especially unsettling because investigators say multiple children may have been involved.
At this point, the criminal case will have to play out through the court system, where prosecutors will be required to prove the charges against Cardoso beyond a reasonable doubt.
But according to the allegations contained in the arrest report, investigators say this wasn’t simply one isolated accusation.
