Former NFL wide receiver Damoun Patterson has been arrested in Daytona Beach, Florida, and newly released police footage shows the moments officers pulled him over during a high-risk traffic stop.
According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, officers were alerted around 1:06 a.m. on August 22 to be on the lookout for Patterson and a stolen white 2025 Kia SUV with a Florida tag.
Officers eventually located the vehicle in the 700 block of Silver Beach Avenue, where Patterson was reportedly behind the wheel.
The bodycam footage shows officers moving in on the vehicle and taking control of the situation as Patterson is detained. Officers can be heard giving commands as they approach the SUV before Patterson is taken into custody.
Police say the vehicle was confirmed stolen and Patterson was arrested on a charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle. A machete-style knife was also reportedly found on the front passenger seat during an inventory of the vehicle and collected as evidence.
The case reportedly stems from an investigation involving an alleged home invasion in the Orlando area. Authorities say additional charges were expected, including armed burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and motor vehicle theft.
Patterson, who played college football at Youngstown State, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, among other teams, during his football career.
The arrest has now gained attention online after police released footage showing Patterson’s detention.
As with any criminal case, the charges against Patterson are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
