Intruder breaks into San Diego home and the family dog brought him a toy.

A San Diego home break-in took an absolutely unexpected turn after a security camera caught the family dog approaching the alleged intruder — with a toy in its mouth.

Yeah… while somebody was apparently inside the home who had no business being there, the dog wasn’t barking, attacking or running for cover.

The dog basically said: “You here to play?”

According to NBC 7 San Diego, the bizarre incident happened earlier this month in Sherman Heights, where surveillance footage captured the strange interaction between the family pet and the person who allegedly entered the home.

The footage shows the dog coming toward the intruder carrying one of its toys, creating a moment that looks almost too crazy to be real.

Instead of recognizing the person as a threat, the dog appeared to treat the unexpected visitor like somebody who had come over specifically to hang out.

And that’s what makes the footage so wild.

Imagine coming home knowing somebody broke into your house, only to find out your dog apparently tried to make friends with the person.

For most homeowners, a dog can be one of the first lines of defense when somebody unfamiliar enters the property. But this particular pup apparently had a completely different game plan.

“Forget the burglary — YOU WANNA PLAY FETCH?”

The surveillance footage has quickly become the most memorable part of the incident because of the dog’s innocent reaction.

While the circumstances surrounding the break-in are serious, the dog’s behavior provides an almost unbelievable contrast. Whoever entered the residence may have expected an alarm, a confrontation or at least a barking dog.

Instead, they got greeted with a toy.

The incident also shows just how unpredictable animals can be when confronted with unfamiliar situations. Dogs don’t necessarily react to strangers the way humans expect them to, and this pup seemingly interpreted the encounter as an opportunity for some playtime.

NBC 7 reported that the homeowners’ security cameras captured the interaction, giving them a bizarre record of what happened inside their home.

The footage has since grabbed attention because viewers can’t get over the same question:

There is also an obvious darker side to the footage. A person allegedly entering somebody else’s home is a serious matter, regardless of how friendly the family pet happened to be.

The surveillance video could potentially help investigators understand what happened and identify the person involved.

But online, the dog has basically stolen the entire story.

Instead of becoming the hero who chased the intruder away, this dog apparently decided to become the intruder’s new best friend.

And honestly, the dog probably had no idea anything was wrong.

To that dog, there was just a stranger standing around and a toy that needed somebody to throw it.

Meanwhile, the homeowners are dealing with an alleged home invasion.

The bizarre surveillance footage is a reminder that even during a serious situation, animals can react in ways nobody expects.

And somewhere in San Diego, there’s apparently a dog that may have completely misunderstood the assignment.
