An Indiana man was taken into custody several months following the fatal shooting of another man. The woman suspected to be at the heart of the incident claimed that jealousy was the motive behind the alleged murder.
According to lawandcrime Jeremy Jett, aged 19, was set to make a court appearance on Thursday following accusations of killing 26-year-old Darius Timberlake in April.
Court documents suggest that Jett shot Timberlake upon discovering him with Jett’s girlfriend in bed. Police noted in the legal record that Jett’s girlfriend described him as jealous.
Police were called to a residence in Lawrence, Indiana, around 3:30 a.m. on April 23 due to reports of a shooting.
Upon reaching the location, law enforcement discovered Timberlake deceased from gunshot injuries.
Local news reports indicated that a person of interest had been apprehended for interrogation without disclosing the individual’s identity or whether they were a suspect.
Approximately two months later, Jett was taken into custody and accused of committing Timberlake’s murder.
Prosecutors claimed that upon arriving at his girlfriend’s house, Jett discovered her in bed with another man, identified as Timberlake.
Allegedly, Jett brandished a firearm at Timberlake, leading to a struggle over the weapon, which resulted in Jett firing the deadly shots.
Court records indicated that Jett delayed over 30 minutes before contacting 911 and later asserted that the shooting had been unintentional.
Jett faces a murder charge and is currently detained without bond at Marion County Jail. His court appearance was set for Thursday.
Jett’s attorney argued that the shooting was a tragic accident and that Jett had no intention of harming Timberlake.
The prosecution presented eyewitness testimony that contradicted Jett’s version of events.
The judge ruled that Jett would remain in custody until the trial due to the severity of the charges. Jett’s family expressed shock and disbelief at the accusations against him.
The case attracted significant media attention and public interest in the local community.
