Lakylia Taylor, a Michigan woman charged in a May 2025 shooting outside an Eastpointe Foot Locker that left two men dead, has been released from jail following a significant reduction in her bond.
In September 2025, a judge lowered her bond from $2.5 million to $250,000 cash or surety, allowing her to be freed under strict court-ordered conditions.
At the time of the incident, Taylor was 19 years old; she is now 20. Authorities allege that she fatally shot two men and injured a third after a confrontation in the store’s parking lot between her brother, Dejuan Taylor, and three men.
According to her defense attorney, Taylor acted in self-defense to protect her brother, who was reportedly being attacked. One of the men involved in the altercation is said to have been carrying a handgun.
Taylor now faces multiple felony charges, including second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon, and several counts of felony firearm possession. These charges carry significant potential prison sentences if she is convicted.
Upon her release, Taylor was placed under several court-ordered restrictions, including house arrest, GPS monitoring, and a no-contact order with the victims. Her next pretrial conference is scheduled for November 17, 2025, where the court will review the case and any further motions from her legal team or the prosecution.
The incident has drawn attention in Eastpointe and beyond, sparking discussions about public safety, gun violence, and the legal boundaries of self-defense. Community members and legal experts continue to follow the case closely as it moves through the judicial system.
