Lil Tjay Sued by NYPD Officer Over Alleged Madison Square Garden Brawl

Bronx NY Rapper Lil Tjay is facing a civil lawsuit filed by an off-duty New York City police officer who alleges he suffered severe spinal injuries during an altercation at Madison Square Garden last year.

According to court documents filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, Officer John Przybyszewski claims he sustained permanent neck and back injuries during a February 2025 incident involving the rapper and members of his entourage. The lawsuit alleges that the confrontation occurred during a boxing event at the iconic venue.

The officer, who was reportedly working an off-duty security detail at the time, claims he was attempting to escort Lil Tjay out of the venue following a dispute when a physical altercation broke out. In the complaint, Przybyszewski alleges that he was knocked to the ground during the scuffle, resulting in serious spinal injuries that have left him with long-term pain and limitations.

The lawsuit names Lil Tjay, members of his entourage, and additional parties connected to the event. It also reportedly claims that the event promoter and Madison Square Garden failed to provide adequate security measures to prevent the incident.

The officer is seeking damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Reports indicate that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office declined to pursue criminal charges in connection with the incident at the time. The reasons for that decision have not been publicly detailed.

The case now moves forward as a civil matter, where the burden of proof differs from criminal proceedings. Civil lawsuits require a “preponderance of the evidence” standard, meaning the plaintiff must show that their claims are more likely than not to be true.

As of publication, Lil Tjay and his legal team have not publicly commented on the lawsuit. Representatives for Madison Square Garden have acknowledged the complaint in reports but have maintained that there was a significant security presence at the event.

It remains unclear whether the rapper plans to contest the allegations in court or seek a settlement.

Lil Tjay, born Tione Merritt, rose to prominence in the late 2010s with hits such as “F.N,” “Calling My Phone,” and “Brothers.” The Bronx native has built a strong fan base and achieved multiple chart-topping singles and platinum certifications.

In recent years, the rapper has faced several legal and public incidents unrelated to this lawsuit. Most notably, he survived a 2022 shooting in New Jersey that left him hospitalized in critical condition. He later returned to music and touring following his recovery.

The current lawsuit adds another legal challenge to the artist’s career, though it remains a civil matter and does not involve criminal charges.

The case will proceed through the New York civil court system unless resolved through a settlement. Civil lawsuits of this nature can take months—or even years—to reach a resolution, depending on motions, evidence discovery, and negotiations between parties.

If the case goes to trial, a judge or jury would ultimately determine liability and any potential financial damages.

For now, the allegations remain claims made in a civil complaint, and no court has ruled on the matter.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
