Bus Aide Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Special Needs Students.

A Long Island school bus aide has been arrested and charged after authorities say he physically and verbally abused multiple special needs students while on duty.

Police identified the suspect as Devone Medlock, 37, of Amityville. According to Nassau County Police, the alleged abuse occurred on January 13, 2026, while Medlock was working as a bus aide transporting students to and from the Grand Avenue School in Baldwin.

Investigators say Medlock engaged in a pattern of violent behavior toward several children. The alleged actions included pushing, slamming, restraining, and even sitting on the students, as well as verbal abuse.

Following an investigation, Medlock was arrested at his home in March and charged with six counts of third-degree assault, six counts of third-degree menacing, and six counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities say the children involved attend Grand Avenue School and require special education services. The bus was operated by First Student, a private transportation contractor that serves local school districts.

After the allegations surfaced, Medlock was terminated from his position, and school officials reported the incident to law enforcement. District officials emphasized that student safety remains their top priority and that they are cooperating fully with the investigation.

Medlock was scheduled to be arraigned on March 21, 2026, in Nassau County court.

Police are urging anyone who may have additional information or believe their child may have been affected to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers.

The case remains under investigation.
