A 21-year-old Arlington man is facing a murder charge after police say a dispute over allowance money escalated into a fatal shooting involving his grandmother.
Officers with the Arlington Police Department responded to a call at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Carriage House Circle late in the evening. When they arrived, they discovered a 68-year-old woman deceased at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound.
According to investigators, the suspect Rontrell Jackson— identified as the victim’s grandson — admitted to shooting her following a heated argument inside the apartment. Police say the disagreement centered around money, described as an “allowance,” and quickly intensified.
After the shooting, authorities allege the suspect dragged the victim’s body from inside the residence to a patio area outside the apartment. A firearm believed to have been used in the incident was recovered at the scene.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Arlington City Jail, where he is currently being held on a murder charge. As of now, officials have not released bond details.
Police have not publicly released the names of the suspect or the victim pending further investigation and formal notification of family members.
Neighbors in the area described the incident as deeply unsettling. Residents say the complex is typically quiet, making the violent nature of the incident especially shocking.
Authorities have not specified the exact timeline leading up to the shooting but confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and conduct interviews to better understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Arlington Police Department.
