Memphis man sentenced to 20 years for $100K gun & jewelry heist

A 24-year-old Memphis man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following his conviction for a high-profile theft of more than $100,000 in firearms and jewelry from a Southaven business.

Guyland Key was arrested in August 2024 in Arkansas after authorities linked him to the break-in at Guns & Fine Jewelry. According to court records, the theft took place in a matter of minutes, with over 150 firearms and numerous pieces of jewelry stolen.

In addition to the prison sentence, Key was ordered to serve seven years of probation for the burglary charge. Law enforcement officials said the investigation was aided by surveillance footage and evidence recovered during the arrest.

“This sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the impact it had on the business and the community,” said a spokesperson for the DeSoto County District Attorney’s office.

The store’s owner expressed relief that justice had been served, noting that the swift response by law enforcement helped prevent further losses.
