Memphis Mother Charged With Murder After Allegedly Shooting Man Found Hiding Under Daughter’s Bed

A Memphis mother is facing a murder charge after police say she discovered a man hiding underneath her daughter’s bed, leading to a deadly shooting that has sparked debate online.

According to authorities, 36-year-old Kendra Scott was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after the July 16 incident at a home in Memphis, Tennessee.

Police say officers responded to the scene after reports of a shooting and found 20-year-old Rodderius Morton suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators allege Morton had been hiding underneath Scott’s daughter’s bed when she returned home and discovered him inside the room. Police say Scott confronted Morton before the shooting occurred.

Authorities said Scott allegedly told officers, “I saw a dude under my kids’ bed, and I did what I had to do.”

The case quickly gained attention after details of the incident spread online, with many people debating whether Scott was acting out of fear and protection for her child or whether the situation escalated beyond what was legally justified.

According to investigators, Scott’s daughter told police she had invited Morton into the home while her mother was away. Officials are continuing to piece together the events that led up to the shooting.

Neighbors also provided information to authorities, with one reportedly telling police they heard a gunshot and later saw Scott outside with a firearm.

The incident has raised questions about home protection, parental instincts, and the legal limits of self-defense.

While some people online have expressed sympathy for a mother who believed her child could be in danger, prosecutors will determine whether the shooting meets the requirements for self-defense under Tennessee law.

Scott remains facing a first-degree murder charge as the investigation continues. The case is expected to draw further attention as more details are released.
