A horrifying situation in the Bronx has left a young mother dead and her infant daughter fighting to recover after police say the woman was pushed from a 15th-floor balcony while holding her baby.
Authorities have arrested 31-year-old Angel Carrasco in connection with the shocking incident involving his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend, Nathaly Ramirez, and their 8-month-old daughter.
According to authorities, the incident happened early Tuesday morning at an apartment building on Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx. Police responded to the building after receiving reports of a woman and an infant who had fallen from a high floor.
When officers arrived, they found Ramirez and her baby on the ground suffering from serious injuries.
Ramirez was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her baby girl survived the terrifying fall and was hospitalized in critical condition. Reports later indicated that the infant’s condition had stabilized.
Investigators quickly began looking into whether the fall was accidental. According to police, evidence at the scene pointed to the mother and baby having been pushed from the balcony.
And that’s when the case reportedly turned into a homicide investigation.
Authorities say Carrasco, who is the father of the baby, became the main suspect.
According to investigators, Carrasco allegedly pushed Ramirez and the infant from the balcony before fleeing the area.
The case sparked an overnight manhunt as investigators worked to locate him.
Carrasco was eventually arrested and is facing multiple serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault, according to authorities.
The allegations are especially disturbing because police say Carrasco and Ramirez had a previous history of domestic violence.
Carrasco had reportedly been arrested earlier this year in connection with an alleged assault involving Ramirez.
Now, investigators are examining that history as part of the case.
Neighbors described a terrifying scene in the early morning hours.
One neighbor reportedly told investigators that she heard screaming coming from the apartment shortly before the mother and baby fell.
Another reported hearing Ramirez pleading with Carrasco, including words along the lines of, “Please don’t do this. My baby.”
Those details have added another heartbreaking layer to a case that has already shaken the Bronx community.
Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened inside the apartment before Ramirez and her daughter went over the balcony.
The biggest question remains what led to the confrontation and whether there were warning signs before the alleged attack.
The fact that Ramirez’s infant survived the fall has also become one of the most heartbreaking parts of the story.
Authorities believe the mother may have helped protect her daughter during the fall, potentially using her own body to cushion the baby.
While Ramirez did not survive, her daughter was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Family members and loved ones are now left mourning a young mother while hoping her baby continues to recover.
The case has also reignited concerns about domestic violence and how quickly dangerous situations inside relationships can escalate.
For many people following the story, the fact that the alleged incident involved a mother and her infant makes the circumstances even more difficult to process.
ANOTHER FAMILY SHATTERED
Ramirez was only 23 years old.
Her death leaves behind a baby who will now grow up without her mother, while investigators continue piecing together the moments leading up to the fatal fall.
Carrasco is now facing the criminal justice system, where the allegations against him will have to be proven in court.
For now, investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the case moves forward.
The Bronx community is left dealing with the aftermath of a tragedy that authorities say started inside a home and ended with a young mother losing her life.
What was supposed to be another night at home turned into a deadly scene that left one family devastated and an infant fighting to recover.
Carrasco is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
