Mother Speaks Out After Brutal Attack by Group of Kids Outside Bright Elementary

A mother who was attacked by a group of children while trying to protect her own outside a South Side elementary school says she and her son and daughter are still struggling in the days following the incident.

According to the family’s update, Corshawnda Hatter and her children have been relocated to a safe, undisclosed location.

The kids will be enrolled in a new school and connected with therapy services. A GoFundMe has also been created to support them through the holidays and beyond.

And there’s more: Corshawnda is moving forward with pressing charges against the parents of the children involved in the attack, and she is exploring legal action against the school that allegedly ignored the behavior for the past two years.

This moment shows why we need a “Corshawnda Hatter Bill” — legislation that protects bullied children and holds parents immediately accountable for their kids’ actions. Keep this family in your prayers. And parents, check in with your children. Don’t overlook harmful behavior happening right in your own home.
