On Friday Ali was sent to an hospital in Arizona where respiratory problems coupled with his Parkinson’s disease.
A source close to the family told Reuters. “It’s a matter of hours.”
The source said he had spoken with Ali’s wife, Lonnie.
“It could be more than a couple of hours, but it’s not going to be much more,” the source said. “Funeral arrangements are already being made.”
The 74-year-old was hospitalized Thursday, the latest in a series of health issues that plagued the poetry-spouting pugilist in recent years.
Relatives were warned that Ali’s health appeared worse than during other recent hospital admissions for various problems.
“I can’t really say much more,” said Dr. Abraham Lieberman, Ali’s longtime physician.
