Minnesota Timberwolves’ Naz Reid’s Sister Fatally Shot in New Jersey

The sister of Naz Reid, who plays professional basketball for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was tragically shot and killed at an apartment complex in New Jersey on Monday.

Police responded to the Paragon apartment complex in Jackson around 11 a.m. on Saturday after reports of gunshots. When they arrived, they found Toraya Reid, 28, near the exit of the complex. She was unresponsive and had been shot multiple times, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.

Nearby, officers saw Shaquille Green, 29, running down the street. He was quickly arrested without any issues.

Green is now facing charges for murder and two weapons violations. Authorities said that Reid and Green had been dating, but didn’t give any more details.

Green stayed in jail as of Monday, and prosecutors aren’t sure if he has a lawyer yet.

Naz Reid, 25, who’s from New Jersey and was a standout player in high school, is heading into his seventh season with the Timberwolves. He recently signed a five-year deal with the team and was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 2023-24 season.

Before going pro, Reid played one season at LSU, where he averaged 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds as a freshman. He declared for the NBA draft in 2019, skipping the rest of his college eligibility.

Reid’s agents haven’t responded to requests for comment as of Monday.
