An Ohio dad is facing criminal charges after authorities say he allegedly took matters into his own hands following disturbing allegations involving his 11-year-old daughter.
According to investigators, 31-year-old Malik Chandler of Grove City, Ohio, allegedly used his daughter’s TikTok account while pretending to be the child in order to lure 20-year-old Diego Montoya Gonzalez to his home.
Police say the confrontation happened after the child’s mother discovered nasty videos on the girl’s phone that allegedly showed Gonzalez sexually assaulting her.
The case reportedly began when the girl’s mother found the disturbing video and contacted authorities. Prosecutors later accused Gonzalez of multiple crimes connected to the alleged abuse, including rape charges and charges involving sexually explicit material involving a minor. Gonzalez has pleaded not guilty.
After learning about the allegations, investigators say Chandler began communicating with Gonzalez through TikTok while posing as his daughter.
Authorities allege Chandler’s goal was to get Gonzalez to come to the family’s Grove City residence, where he could confront him.
When Gonzalez arrived at the home, the situation reportedly escalated.
According to court records, Chandler told detectives he initially planned to beat Gonzalez, hold him at the residence, and then contact police. However, Chandler allegedly said he believed Gonzalez was reaching for a weapon, causing him to grab his own firearm and shoot him.
Police responding to the scene reportedly found Gonzalez suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was transported to a Columbus-area hospital for treatment and survived the shooting.
Chandler later surrendered to police and was arrested. He has been charged with felonious assault, and authorities set his bond at $100,000.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez is facing his own legal battle. Prosecutors allege he committed crimes against the 11-year-old girl and later presented evidence as part of their case against him. He was indicted on multiple felony charges, including two counts of rape and five counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.
The case has sparked intense reactions online, with many people debating the actions of a father accused of trying to protect his child while also facing consequences for allegedly using violence instead of allowing the criminal justice system to handle the situation.
