Pastor faces Backlash After Getting Upset At Woman For only Donating $1,200

Pastor Marvin Winans Criticized for Response to Donation During “Day of Giving” Event

Pastor Marvin Winans of Perfecting Church in Detroit, Michigan, drew criticism after a moment during the church’s “Day of Giving” event in which he appeared to reprimand a congregant for her donation amount.

According to a report by Blavity, Winans encouraged attendees to contribute “$1,000 plus 1,” implying a call for two separate $1,000 donations.

During the service, a woman stepped forward, saying:
“I’m giving in faith and standing in unity with the vision of Perfecting Church, sowing this seed of $1,000 plus $235 and receiving the blessings to come.”

Winans responded:
“That’s only $1,200. You’re not listening to what I’m saying. If you have $1,000 plus $1,000…”

The exchange sparked reactions on social media, with many questioning the tone and expectations conveyed during the giving event.
