Police officer killed, two people wounded by gunman in New York City office building
A shooting incident occurred in a midtown office building in NYC where three individuals, one of them being a police officer, were injured. The building is home to leading financial companies and the National Football League.
Sources reported that a man in body armor, armed with a high-powered rifle, fatally shot three individuals, one of whom was an off-duty police officer providing security in Midtown Manhattan.
The event took place shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Monday at an office building situated at the intersection of 345 Park Avenue and 52nd Street, according to sources. This building houses the main offices of the investment firm Blackstone and the National Football League.
It is unclear if those companies, or any company in the building, were tied to the shooting.
Sources noted that the suspect was discovered deceased, reportedly barricaded on the 33rd floor, with a likely self-inflicted gunshot wound. Detectives are currently investigating the reasons behind the suspect’s presence on the 33rd floor, aiming to ascertain if the suspect intentionally sought out that location or ended up there by chance.
The motive is currently under investigation, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect outside the building, according to sources.
Employees at 345 Park Ave. have been informed that the threat has been addressed. However, they are instructed to remain indoors and can only exit the premises with a police escort, as stated in a communication sent to them.
A witness inside the Midtown office building at the time of the shooting detailed to CNN what it was like at the scene as colleagues hid in lockdown, unsure of what was unfolding.

Police have not publicly identified the suspect, who they say was the “lone suspect” in the shooting. Law enforcement backtracked the suspect to his car, which video shows him exiting alone.
