A former McDonald’s employee is expected to face criminal charges after a viral video allegedly showed her contaminating food inside a restaurant in Southbridge, Massachusetts.
The incident reportedly took place at the McDonald’s located on East Main Street in Southbridge.
Police say Kaylie Santos, 22 appears to place French fries in her mouth before putting them back into a red McDonald’s fry container while another worker laughs in the background.
The footage quickly spread across social media, sparking outrage and prompting an investigation by local authorities.
Southbridge Police Chief Shane Woodson confirmed that criminal charges are expected to be filed in Dudley District Court. Authorities have not yet publicly released the former employee’s name or the exact charges she will face.
Police and local health officials began investigating shortly after the video surfaced online. Investigators are working to determine whether the contaminated food was served to a customer and whether anyone may have been affected.
The McDonald’s franchise involved is operated by the Spadea and Balducci family franchise group, which released a statement condemning the employees’ actions.
The company said the individuals involved are no longer employed by the organization and emphasized that the behavior does not reflect the restaurant’s food safety standards.
“The actions of these individuals are unacceptable and do not reflect our organization’s food safety standards or values,” the franchise group said in a statement.
Local health officials reportedly found no ongoing public health violations during their inspection of the restaurant, though the investigation remains active.
The viral incident has generated widespread backlash online, with many social media users expressing concern over food safety and calling for stronger accountability in cases involving food tampering.
