Phoenix, Arizona — An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the killing of his neighbor, a crime that investigators say was followed by an unsettling attempt to live inside the victim’s home as if nothing had happened.
According to azfamily.com Police say the suspect, identified as Xzavion Johnson, allegedly broke into the home of 57-year-old David Jimenez in late December. Investigators believe Jimenez was shot multiple times during the encounter. According to authorities, his body was later moved to the backyard and covered with blankets.
What has shocked both neighbors and investigators is what allegedly happened next. Police say Johnson moved into Jimenez’s house and lived there for approximately two weeks following the killing. During that time, he is accused of using the victim’s credit cards, driving his truck, and remaining inside the home without raising immediate suspicion.
Concerns began to grow when neighbors noticed Jimenez had not been seen for an extended period. A foul odor reportedly coming from the property further raised alarms. The case came to light when Johnson’s mother contacted police after noticing unusual activity and a package addressed to her son at Jimenez’s residence.
When officers responded to the home, they discovered Jimenez’s body in the backyard in an advanced state of decomposition. Johnson was taken into custody at the scene.
Investigators allege the firearm used in the killing had been stolen. Johnson is currently being held on a $1 million bond and faces multiple felony charges, including murder. Court records indicate the investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and determine a motive.
Neighbors described the situation as deeply disturbing, saying they never suspected someone was living in the home under such circumstances.
“This is something you never expect to happen on your street,” one neighbor said. “It’s terrifying to think about.”
Johnson has not entered a plea, and no trial date has been announced. As with all criminal cases, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
