Officials stated that a teenager from Detroit faced charges linked to a shooting incident at a Footlocker parking lot in Eastpointe, which resulted in the death of two individuals and injuries to others.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Lakylia Sheila Taylor, aged 19, with second-degree homicide, assault with intent to murder, tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon, and two felony firearm counts.
Her brother, Dejuan Taylor, has also been charged in connection with the shooting.
Allegedly, at around 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, the 19-year-old drove her car into the Footlocker parking lot on 8 Mile Road. According to officials, she was accompanied by her brother and additional individuals.
They exited her car and proceeded on foot towards a Jeep Compass that was parked nearby in the lot.
Dejuan approached the Jeep and Tyjaune Pierre Morris-Turner exited the vehicle holding a firearm, as per the prosecutor’s office.
Dejuan and Morris-Turner engaged in a verbal disagreement that turned into a physical altercation.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Lakylia informed the police that she went back to her car to retrieve her unregistered gun when the incident occurred.
While Lakylia went to her car, Steven Edward Gardin Jr. and Juvan Maurice Newman allegedly got out of the Jeep to join in on the fight.
Upon her return to the scene, she informed the authorities that she fatally shot Newman, who was straddling her brother.
Dejuan fled the scene with his sister and the others in her car. Lakylia was arraigned with a $2,500,000 cash surety bond.
She must wear a steel GPS tether if released from jail. Morris-Turner’s gun and magazines were taken by Dejuan.
The incident led to Gardin Jr.’s death and Morris-Turner’s severe injuries.
