Police Release Bodycam Footage of Woman Dragged From Car After Refusing Ticket

Newly released police body camera footage shows a Texas traffic stop escalating into a violent arrest, after a woman refused to accept a citation and comply with officers’ commands.

The video, released Thursday by the Hurst Police Department, captures the January incident that has since gone viral and sparked debate over the use of force during routine traffic stops.

According to police, the driver—identified as Taneisha Thompson—was pulled over for speeding in a school zone. Officers say she was traveling approximately 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.

Bodycam footage shows the officer issuing a citation, which Thompson refused to accept. After the ticket was placed inside her vehicle, she allegedly threw it out and attempted to roll up her window.

Officers can be seen opening the car door and ordering Thompson to exit the vehicle. When she refused, the officer forcibly pulled her from the SUV. Additional officers then arrived and helped take her to the ground before placing her in handcuffs.

Hurst police officials say the newly released footage provides full context to a previously viral cellphone video, which they claim showed only part of the encounter.

In a statement, the department said the officer’s actions were justified, citing Thompson’s refusal to follow lawful commands.

Police stated force became necessary due to “refusal to follow lawful commands.”

However, Thompson’s attorney strongly disputes that narrative, alleging excessive force.

The attorney claims Thompson suffered visible injuries, including: A black eye, A busted lip requiring stitches and Additional soft tissue injuries.

The legal team also raised concerns about potential civil rights violations and possible racial profiling.

Court records show Thompson has been charged with resisting arrest following the incident.

Police say an internal investigation into the use of force has already been completed, with officials concluding that the complaint was unfounded.

The release of the bodycam footage has intensified public debate online, with viewers divided over whether the officer’s actions were justified or excessive.
