Officer Charged After Allegedly Hiding HIV Status From Woman He Impregnated

Mauldin, South CarolinaA South Carolina man has been charged after police say he knowingly exposed a woman to HIV without telling her—despite later learning she was pregnant with his child.

Authorities identified the suspect as Christopher O’Neil Miller, who was taken into custody following an investigation by local law enforcement.

According to police reports, officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex, where they encountered Miller.

During the investigation, officials say Miller initially provided a false identity, as he reportedly had outstanding warrants at the time.

While speaking with investigators, Miller allegedly admitted that he was aware of his HIV-positive status but chose not to disclose it to the woman he had been involved with.

Police say he acknowledged that he intentionally withheld this information because he did not want her to know.

At the time of the investigation, the woman was approximately seven months pregnant with Miller’s child.

Law enforcement officials stated that Miller’s actions led to charges related to unlawful exposure to HIV, as well as additional offenses connected to providing false identification. He was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center and later granted bond.

South Carolina law requires individuals who are aware of their HIV-positive status to inform sexual partners prior to engaging in activity that could expose others to the virus. Violations of this statute can result in felony charges, even if transmission does not occur.

The case has drawn attention due to the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and the alleged lack of disclosure, highlighting ongoing legal and public health concerns related to HIV awareness, consent, and responsibility.

As of the latest reports, the case remains under legal proceedings, and Miller is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
